Defect Management

Overview

The Defect Management module in TestOps allows teams to efficiently track, manage, and resolve defects throughout the testing lifecycle. It offers seamless integration with tools like JIRA and Plane, as well as robust features like bulk operations, import/export, and filtering.

Accessing Defect Management

To access the Defect Management module, navigate to: Side bar menu > Defect Management

Key Features

  • Create Defect: Click the + Create button to add new defects.

  • Bulk Edit & Delete: Select and edit or delete multiple defects at once.

  • Download Template: Download an import template in XLS, XLSX, or CSV format.

  • Import: Upload defect data from your local machine.

  • Export: Export defect records to XLSX or CSV formats.

  • Sync: The Sync button is used to update the defect list. If your project is integrated with an external tool such as JIRA, the Sync button will be displayed at the top of the defect table

  • Filter: Apply filters to view specific subsets of defects.

  • Search Bar: Use keywords to quickly find specific defects.

  • Bulk Upload Instructions: View guidelines for correctly formatting bulk uploads.

  • Pagination: Navigate through large lists of defects page by page.

Create a Defect

  • + Create: Click on + Create on the Defect Management page.

  • Fill in the required fields: Defect Name, Status, Priority, Steps to Reproduce, Assigned To, Project Name will be auto-filled based on the selected project.

  • If you have integrated with JIRA, select the JIRA user.

  • Submit: Click Submit to save the defect. A confirmation message will appear.

  • Cancel: Use the Cancel button to exit the form without saving changes.

  • Go Back Button: Use this button to return to the previous screen without committing new entries.

Bulk Edit Defects

To perform a bulk edit of defects, start by selecting multiple defects using the checkboxes next to each entry. Once selected, click on the "Bulk Edit" button located at the top of the defect table. This will open a form where you can update the desired fields for all selected defects. After making the necessary changes, click on the "Apply" button to save and apply the updates to all selected records.

Bulk Delete Defects

To delete multiple defects, begin by selecting the defects you want to remove using the checkboxes. Then, click on the "Bulk Delete" button located at the top of the defect table. A confirmation popup will appear click "Delete Now" to confirm and permanently delete the selected defects.

Actions

  • View: See defect details.

  • Edit: Update the defect details.

  • Delete: Remove defect individually (confirmation required).

Audit History

The Defect View page should display an Audit History button located near the Go Back button. When clicked, the Audit History section will appear, showing a detailed log of all actions and changes made to the defect.

Download Import Template

To download the import template, click on the Download Template button. Choose your preferred format—XLS, XLSX, or CSV. Use the downloaded template to correctly format and prepare your defect data for import into the system.

Importing Defects

To import defects, click on the Import button located at the top of the defect table. Select and upload the prepared file from your local system. Once uploaded, the system will validate the file and display the imported defects for review.

Exporting Defects

To export defects, click on the Export button located at the top of the defect table. From the available options, select your desired format XLSX or CSV. The file will then be downloaded automatically to your local system.

Bulk Upload Field Instructions

To view the bulk upload field instructions, click on the "i" icon located beside the Export button. This will open a dialog that displays the required fields and formatting guidelines needed for a successful bulk upload.

Sync Defects

Click on the Sync button located at the top of the defect table to update the defect list and retrieve the latest changes from integrated systems like JIRA or Plane. This ensures that all defect data displayed is current and in sync with external sources.
